During tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, we remove skin and fat, and may repair the muscles of the abdominal wall. The tummy tuck can yield a more smoothly contoured, firmer abdomen, and is commonly performed after major weight loss or pregnancy to tighten loose skin.Tummy tucks may also be performed as part of a comprehensive post-bariatric body contouring effort. Woodglen Aesthetics offers the tummy tuck procedure at our practice in Glendora, along with many other procedures in surgical body contouring.
Who Can Undergo a Tummy Tuck in Glendora & Los Angeles?
Those who are ready to undergo abdominoplasty should be at a stable weight, have good overall health, and realistic expectations for surgery. Generally speaking, individuals receiving the tummy tuck will have:
- A loss of skin elasticity around midsection
- Protruding abdomen
- Midsection disproportionate to body
- Excess tummy skin and fat
- Weakened abdominal muscles
What Happens During Surgery?
You can expect to be in surgery for approximately 1.5-2 hours. Before surgery we will plan your surgery by marking the incision sites on your body, being careful to minimize visible scarring if possible. Incisions for tummy tucks are often made in the lower abdomen at or below the pubic hairline extending out laterally to a bony prominence of the hip. We try to keep the scar inside the panty line so it won’t be obvious at the beach in a bikini. After the incisions are completed, the excess skin in this area is pulled down and inward. Abdominal muscles that have been stretched out from previous weight or pregnancy are repaired and tightened with sutures. The skin is then re-draped, and the incision closed. The procedure may also be combined with liposuction of the hips and flanks. Be sure to discuss with your surgeon your goals for surgery so that adaptations to the procedure, like liposuction to the hips, can be included with your tummy tuck.
After My Tummy Tuck: How Will I Look and Feel?
After tummy tuck surgery in Glendora or Los Angeles, our staff will ensure that you have the aftercare instructions you need. Most patients are asked to remain in the ambulatory surgery center between 12 -18 hours after surgery for monitoring. If used, drains usually will be removed within 3 days post-surgery. We want you to have a comfortable surgical experience therefore he uses absorbable sutures that don’t have to be removed. He dresses your wound with a petroleum based dressing that allows the dressing to come off without sticking in the wound. He never allows tape to be placed on the breast to avoid “tape burn”. You will wear a compression garment for up to 6 weeks following the procedure. You will be followed closely to evaluate your healing. Normal activity can typically be resumed between 2-3 weeks after the operation.
