Breast Reduction

In order to give each patient the prettiest looking breast with as little scarring as possible Woodglen Aesthetics plastic surgeon in Glendora & Los Angeles area has been using a technique that he has perfected in his practice that does away with the traditional “anchor or inverted T incision”. Patients are thrilled to reduce their heavy burden but still have a ‘sexy cleavage’.

The Anchor lift does a great job reducing and lifting the breast, however, it leaves a noticeable scar in the ‘social area’ of the breast which limits the use of low neckline dresses, lingerie and certain bathing suits. Woodglen Aesthetics operation along with other procedures that have been developed in the US and abroad limit scarring to around the nipple-areola complex, or for larger breasts a short vertical scar or triangular scar going down from the areola. Slowly surgeons are beginning to use this later technique, called the vertical technique, with satisfactory results. However, Woodglen Aesthetics has not published our unique technique, as yet, and only a very few exceptional physicians have even seen or used it in their practice. Breast reduction surgery makes the breasts smaller and lighter. The surgery can thereby alleviate many undesirable symptoms that occur with very large breasts. We have performed numerous breast reductions at our practice. For examples of previous operations, please view our before and after photos. Who Can Undergo Breast Reduction Surgery?

The general indication for breast reduction is a condition called macromastia, a condition of very large, heavy breasts. Women who experience this often report symptoms such as:

  • Back pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Discomfort in shoulders
  • Skin irritation
  • Body images issues

This procedure is part cosmetic and part therapeutic. Woodglen Aesthetics reshapes and elevates the breast to exhibit a youthful appearance, while reducing overall breast size to alleviate back pain. The operation will take about 2 – 4 hours under a general anesthetic.

What Happens During Surgery?

Woodglen Aesthetics technique for breast reduction in Glendora & Los Angeles typically provides for an anchor-shaped incision and the removal of skin, glandular tissue and fat. Occasionally he will use liposuction to remove and shape excess fatty tissue. The nipple and areola are elevated and the breast is reshaped for a more youthful appearance. A special bra will be needed. Dr. Sattler uses special drains to help remove fluid accumulation. Woodglen Aesthetics wants you to have a comfortable surgical experience therefore he uses absorbable sutures that don’t have to be removed. He dresses your wound with a petroleum based dressing that allows the dressing to come off without sticking in the wound. He never allows tape to be placed on the breast to avoid “tape burn”.

Breast Reduction For Men

Male breast reduction surgery, also known as gynecomastia correction, is designed to reduce excess breast tissue in males using liposuction and surgical excision. The term comes from “gyne,” meaning woman and “mastia,” meaning breast. Other suitable names for the condition may be “hypermastia” or “macromastia.” By removing excess fat and tissue, the patient can realize a flatter, more masculine chest contour. Woodglen Aesthetics offers male breast reduction at his plastic surgery practice in Glendora, along with a wide variety of procedures for surgical body contouring.

Who Can Undergo Male Breast Reduction?

Men who suffer from excess breast tissue a combination of fat and glandular tissue may be candidates for breast reduction surgery. Along with excess breast tissue, these men can experience sensitivity or tenderness in the area. This combination of symptoms may be diagnosed as gynecomastia. The cause of gynecomastia is not known, but many physicians believe it is a hormonal problem, and is often connected to drug use and lifestyle. Gynecomastia occurs in both adolescents and adults. For children ages 14-15, the occurrence of male breast enlargement may be as high as 65%, tapering off to just under 8% by age 17. Men may also experience hypermastia between ages 50-70. Possible causes include impaired liver function, testosterone deficiency, and use of estrogen-containing medications or anabolic steroids. Other medications that are believed to possibly lead to gynecomastia may include marijuana, zantac, tagemet and nizoral. Men who seek cosmetic surgery for this problem are often embarrassed that they have the disorder and sometimes even too embarrassed to deal with it.

What Happens During Male Breast Reduction?

We may ask that you undergo a medical examination prior to surgery in order to get a thorough look at factors that may be causing your condition. An MRI or mammogram may also be requested so that the surgeon can inspect the composition of the breast tissue. The surgery itself lasts approximately 2 hours, and will be conducted under general anesthesia for large removal, local for minor removal. If the procedure is targeted mostly at removing glandular tissue, the surgeon may use exclusively surgical excision when conducting your male breast reduction. In this case, he will make an incision under the arm or the areola, through which glandular tissue and fat will be removed. If both fat and glandular tissue need to be removed, then the surgeon will combine the excision approach with liposuction. In the combined approach, liposuction will be performed following the excision. During liposuction, a cannula, or thin tube, is inserted into the tiny incisions that removes the fat by way of a vacuum device.

How Will I Look and Feel After Male Breast Reduction?

Many men are back to work as quickly as 3-7 days following breast reduction surgery. Expect some swelling, decreased sensation and bruising to occur after surgery. This usually resolves in 2-3 weeks. We will advise you to postpone exercise for about 4 weeks, and you may need to wait a few months to appreciate the final result of your surgery. It should also be emphasized that regular exercise, and healthy choices and lifestyle are necessary in ensuring lasting results.
