Stretching or expansion of the labia because of weight changes, pregnancy or trauma can result in a distortion of the labia. This can be very disconcerting for the individual. Woodglen Aesthetics physicians can do a reduction procedure which will restore its normal appearance.
PROCEDURE
With local anesthesia, patients undergo mild sedation for the duration of the procedure. Once sedated, incisions are placed on the medial (inside) surfaces of the labia, then the excessive protuberant area is excised and the remaining edge is sewn with absorbable sutures. In under an hour, the vaginal entrance is narrowed, the damaged tissues are repaired and necessary corrections are done to the perineal area.
RECOVERY
Light, daily activities are typically resumed within three days after perineoplasty. Patients are likely to experience minor bleeding, and are advised to keep the incision dry and clean to prevent infection. Patients are safe to return home after about an hour of recovery time. Patients are generally recommended to wait four weeks before taking on more strenuous activities and six weeks before engaging in sexual intercourse.
