The mons is the projection of tissue just above the vagina outlet. With pregnancy, weight loss and maturity the mons has a tendency to droop. When this happens it distorts the normal anatomy of the introitus. This can be repaired by lifting it back in to its normal position. This can result in a very satisfactory physiologic response.
PROCEDURE
Depending on the amount of excess fat needed to be removed, mons lift can be performed under either general anesthesia or local anesthesia. For patients with excess or drooping skin, it may require lifting, thinning and reshaping of the mons pubis for optimal contour. Mons lift is often performed in conjunction with other abdominal contouring procedures.
RECOVERY
The length of monsplasty recovery varies depending on the extent of the procedure. During this period, patients are instructed to wear protective support underwear that would help ensure proper healing. Most mons lift patients are able to return to work a few days following their procedure. However, patients should refrain from sexual intercourse for at least 6 weeks and avoid strenuous activities for about 3-6 weeks.
