Perineoplasty

Perineoplasty, also known as labiaplasty, can help women who live with discomfort and embarrassment caused by excessive labia. Patients looking to undergo perineoplasty often do so in order to correct abnormally large or asymmetrical labia, which can cause discomfort and interfere with pleasure during intercourse. Many patients also choose to undergo perineoplasty to tighten the vaginal entrance. Often as a result of enduring childbirth, women will experience perineal tears, tissue damage, scarring and vaginal looseness. At Woodglen Aesthetics, we offer perineoplasty to reduce large labia and help women improve their quality of life.

Procedure

With local anesthesia, patients undergo mild sedation for the duration of the procedure. Once sedated, incisions are placed on the medial (inside) surfaces of the labia, then the excessive protuberant area is excised and the remaining edge is sewn with absorbable sutures. In under an hour, the vaginal entrance is narrowed, the damaged tissues are repaired and necessary corrections are done to the perineal area.

Recovery

Light, daily activities are typically resumed within three days after perineoplasty. Patients are likely to experience minor bleeding, and are advised to keep the incision dry and clean to prevent infection. Patients are safe to return home after about an hour of recovery time. Patients are generally recommended to wait four weeks before taking on more strenuous activities and six weeks before engaging in sexual intercourse.
