Breast Augmentation

Deciding to do a cosmetic breast procedure is an important decision in woman’s life that helps them feel more confident and desired, and dramatically improves a woman’s self esteem. It is no wonder why breast augmentation is one of the most commonly performed procedures in our country today.

Cosmetic Breast Augmentation Most women decide to have this procedure done to enlarge small breasts, underdeveloped breasts, or breasts that have decreased in size because of having children.

Is Breast Augmentation Right for You? During your consultation with one of our Physician’s, you will get a chance to discuss your expected outcome from the surgery based on the current nature of your breasts. Consultations give patients the opportunity to ask your surgeon any questions or concerns you may have about this specific procedure. You will also get a chance to see several before and after photographs of patients with breast similar to yours and you will also have the opportunity to try some different size implants in a bra so that you may have realistic expectations of the size that you desire. Typically, before the procedure is performed, a mammogram (X-Ray) may be required.

Is Breast Augmentation Safe? The FDA has determined that breast implants are safe, and the FDA requires breast implant companies continue to obtain long term safety information. Most women can even safely breastfeed after their surgery

Your Procedure Breast augmentation is done under general anesthesia and usually does not require more than two hours of operation. There are a variety of different insertion techniques that your surgeon and you will decide on prior to the surgery. There are three main insertion or incision points; around the nipple (periareolar), within the breast fold (inframammary), and under the arm (axillary). We also perform the unique technique of going through the belly button, which is a relatively scarless procedure. Prior to the surgery, you will have to complete some tests and pre-surgical examinations.

Your Recovery Since breast augmentation is an out-patient surgery, many women feel a bit tired and sore from a few days post surgery. The breasts can feel sensitive and swollen and can have some bruising. Anti-biotics will be prescribed for you to take after the procedure to minimize your chances of infection. Your surgeon will inform you when you may return to most normal activities; and most vigorous activity can be resumed in 6 weeks following surgery. You will then be able to fully enjoy your new breasts and the new you!
